安判書瑋。與先君有雅。請先君作從政圖詩。詩曰。無計能駈午睡酣。展圖爭擲喜難堪。身兼將相期移晷。唾取勳名在立談。心上再思存懋德。胸中一念戒崩貪。他年正色要如此。堯舜君民不大慙。

Korean Translation

판서(判書) 안위(安瑋)가 파주(坡州)의 목사로 있을 때, 아버지께서 그곳의 교수로 글을 가르쳤는데, 이미 황해주(黃海州)에 반자(半刺)를 지냈으므로, 안공이 선군(先君)과 풍류스러운 벗이어서 접대하기를 매우 후하게 하였다. 어느 날 선군께 종정도(從政圖) 시를 다시 지어 달라고 청했다. 선군께서 칠언장률(七言長律)을 지으셨는데, 단 낮잠을 몰아내는 꾀가 없더니 / 無術能驅午睡酣 종정도 펴 주사위 던져 다투니 기쁘기 한없어 / 展圖爭擲喜難堪 몸이 장상을 겸해 얻기를 시간 안에 기하고 / 身兼將相期移晷 손바닥에 침칠하여 공훈과 명성을 취하는 것이 잠깐 사이 / 唾取勳名在立談 마음속으로 세 번 생각함은 덕에 힘씀을 보존함이요 / 心上三思存懋德 가슴 가운데 하나의 염원은 탐욕의 싹이 틀까 경계함이네 / 胸中一念戒萌貪 뒷날 정색하기를 이같이 한다면 / 他年正色要如此 요순 군민에도 크게 부끄럽지 않으리 / 堯舜君民不大慙 하였다.

English Translation

Minister An Wi 安瑋 (1491–1563) and my late father were friends. He once asked my father to write a poem on the Government Career Ladder Climbing Game 從政圖. The poem reads, 無計能驅午睡酣展圖爭擲喜難堪身兼將相期移晷唾取勛名在立談心上再思存懋德胸中一念戒萌貪他年正色要如此堯舜君民不大慚 I had no idea what could drive away my sweet afternoon nap.Opening the game and throwing the dice,how delightful is this?I hope I become a general and a ministerafter a little while.I can easily obtain merits in a very short time.Then I think twice about preserving splendid virtues.A thought in my bosom—Abstain from sprouting greed.If later on, I can maintainthis solemn attitude,before Yao and Shun, my king and my people, I shall not be too ashamed.
