| 楊滄海倅安邊也。林悌爲高山察訪。林悌謾謂滄海曰。德山驛壁上。見有七言絶句一首。以拙筆書之。疑是此道邊將之所作也。爲滄海誦之曰。胡虜曾窺數十州。將軍躍馬取封侯。如今絶塞烟塵靜。壯士閑眠古驛樓。滄海笑曰。此非武夫所作。必高山手也。其後。崔公慶昌。以將軍躍馬取封侯。改爲當時躍馬取封侯。 |

| 양창해(楊滄海)가 안변 군수(安邊郡守)로 있을 때, 임제(林悌)는 고산 찰방(高山察訪 지금의 철도 국장과 같은 벼슬)이 되었다. 임제가 창해에게 농담삼아 말하기를, “덕산(德山)역 벽 위에 칠언절구 한 수가 붙어 있는데, 내 못 쓰는 글씨로 쓴 것입니다. 아마 북도(北道) 변장(邊將)이 지은 시가 아닌가 생각합니다.” 하고 창해에게 그 시를 죽 불러 주는데,
오랑캐가 일찍 수십 고을을 엿보았는데 / 胡虜曾窺數十州 장군이 말을 달려 봉후가 되었구나 / 將軍躍馬取封侯 이제 멀리 떨어진 요새에 전란이 그치면 / 如今絶塞煙塵靜 장사들이 한가로이 옛 역루에서 잠들리로다 / 壯士閑眠古驛樓 하였더니, 창해가 웃으면서, “이것은 무부(武夫)의 입에서 나온 것이 아니요, 반드시 고산(高山) 당신의 솜씨일 것이다.” 하였다. 그 뒤에 최경창(崔慶昌)이 ‘장군약마취봉후(將軍躍馬取封侯)’를 고쳐서 ‘당시약마취봉후(當時躍馬取封侯)’로 하였다. |

| When Yang Saŏn was Prefect of Anbyŏn, Im Che 林悌 (1549–1587) was Superintendent of Kosan station (ch’albang). Im deceivingly said to Yang, “On the wall at Tŏksan station, I saw a seven-character quatrain and copied it down. I suspect it is a work of a military general who guards the borders of this province.” He read the poem to Yang. 胡虜曾窺數十州將軍躍馬取封侯如今絕塞煙塵靜將士閑眠古驛樓 Foreign enemies once watched for their chance in tens of provinces.The general, dashing on the horse, took possession of fiefdoms.Now in the distant frontier,smoke and dust have cleared.The soldiers sleep idly at the old post station. Laughing, Yang responded, “This is not a military man’s work. It must come from your own hands!” Later, Ch’oe Kyŏngch’ang changed “The general, dashing on the horse, took possession of fiefdoms” to “Then, dashing on the horse, I took possession of fiefdoms” 當時躍馬取封侯. |
