新羅眞德女主太平詩。載於唐詩類紀。其詩高古雄渾。比始唐諸作不相上下。是時。東方文風未盛。乙支文德一絶外無聞焉。而女主乃爾亦奇矣。詩曰。   大唐開鴻業。 嵬嵬皇猷昌。 止戈戎衣定。 修文繼百王。 統天崇雨施。 理物體含章。 深仁諧日月。 撫運邁時康。 幡旗旣赫赫。 鉦鼓何煌煌。 外夷違命者。 剪覆被天殃。 和風凝宇宙。 遐邇競呈祥。 四時調玉燭。 七曜巡萬方。 維岳降帝輔。 維帝用忠良。 五三成一德。 昭載皇家唐。 按小註曰。永徽元年。眞德大破百濟之衆乃織錦。作五言太平詩以獻云。按永徽。乃高宗年號也。

Korean Translation

신라 진덕 여주(眞德女主)의 태평시(太平詩)가《당시류기(唐詩類記)》에 실려 있는데, 그 시는 고고(高古)하고 웅혼(雄渾)하니 초당(初唐)의 모든 저작에 비해도 서로 우열을 가릴 수 없다. 이때 동방의 문풍(文風)이 아직 왕성하지 못했는지라, 을지문덕의 이 한 절구시(絶句詩) 외에는 들어보지 못했는데, 여주가 또한 그러하였으니 기이하다. 그 시는 다음과 같다. 위대한 당 나라 큰 업을 열었으니 높고 높은 제왕의 모책이 창성하도다 무(武)는 한번 융의 입어 천하를 평정했고 문(文)을 닦아 백왕을 이었네 하늘을 대신하여 은택을 비처럼 뿌리고 만물을 다스림엔 땅의 도를 법받았네 인(仁)을 깊이 펴기를 일월과 같이하고 천운을 따라서 치세(治世)를 힘쓰네 번기(幡旗)는 뚜렷이 빛나는데 정고(鉦鼓)는 어찌 그리도 찬란한가 외방 오랑캐로서 명을 어긴 자는 하늘의 재앙을 받아 멸망하리라 화평한 풍기가 우주에 어리어 원근에서 다투어 상서를 바치네 사시는 옥촉(玉燭)처럼 고르고 칠요는 만방을 순행한다 산악의 정기가 재보(宰輔)를 탄생시키고 임금은 그 충량(忠良)을 쓰도다 오삼(五三)의 덕을 겸했으니 황가(皇家)인 당 나라가 밝도다 그 소주(小註)를 상고하니, “영휘(永徽) 원년에 진덕 여주가 백제 군사를 대파하고 나서 곧 오언으로 태평시(太平詩)를 지어 바쳤다.” 하였다. 상고하건대, 영휘는 바로 고종의 연호이다.

English Translation

Queen Chindŏk 眞德 (r. 647–654) of Silla is found in the Tangsi yugi 唐詩類記 (Classified Records of Tang Poetry). Lofty and ancient (kogo), robust and simple (unghon), her poem rivals the poems from the early Tang dynasty. At that time, the literary culture of the East had not yet flourished. Besides Ŭlchi Mundŏk’s quatrain, I had heard nothing else. That she achieved this as a female sovereign is truly remarkable. The poem reads, The great Tang has begun its grand mission. Majestic are the great merits of the emperor! The battles ceased, and the armor was put away. Civilization was restored, succeeding hundreds of kings. Commanding the heaven, the Tang showered down favor. Managing all things, it embodies beauty. Its benevolence was profound, keeping with the sun and the moon. Conforming to a timely fortune, a generation of great peace followed. How brilliant are your streaming banners! How dazzling your gongs and drums! Barbarians outside the realm who disobey your commands shall be overthrown by a calamity from heaven. Harmonious air gathers throughout the world. Far and near, all vie for auspicious signs. Four seasons regulate favorable weather. Seven Stars illuminate myriad places. High mountains bring forth great ministers. The emperor employs the loyal and the good. Becoming one in virtue with Five Emperors and Three Kings is the radiant imperial house of Tang. According to an annotation: In the first year of the Yonghui reign (650; T’aehwa 1), Queen Chindŏk destroyed the Paekche army and presented to the emperor a silk embroidery of her five-character poem, the “Poem of Great Peace.” Note: Yonghui (650–656) was the reign title of Tang Emperor Gaozong.
