| 濮陽吳世才德全。爲詩遒邁勁俊。其時之膾炙人口者不爲不多。而未見其能押强韻。及登北山欲題戟岩。使人呼韻。其人故以險韻呼之。吳題曰。
北嶺石巉巉。 邦人號戟巖。 逈摏乘鶴晋。 高刺上天咸。 楺柄電爲火。 洗鋒霜是鹽。 何當作兵器。 亡楚却存凡。 其後有北朝使。能詩人也。聞此詩再三歎美。問是人在否。今作何官。儻可見之耶 我國人茫然無以對。余聞之曰。何不道今之制誥學士耶。其昧權如此。可歎。 |

| 복양(濮陽) 오세재 덕전(吳世才德全)은 시를 힘차고 준수하게 지었다. 그 시가 사람들의 입에 오르내린 것이 퍽 많지만, 강운(强韻)을 달아서 지은 것은 못 봤다.
그가 북산(北山)에 올라 극암(戟巖)을 시제(詩題)로 해서 시를 지으려고 할 때 사람을 시켜서 운자를 내게 하자, 그 사람은 일부러 험한 운자를 냈는데, 오 선생은 다음과 같이 썼다. 북령의 돌이 우뚝한 것을 / 北嶺石巉巉 사람들이 극암이라 부르네 / 邦人號戟巖 학을 탄 왕자 진(王子晉)을 칠 듯이 솟았고 / 逈摏乘鶴晉 하늘에 오르는 무함(巫咸)을 찌를 듯이 높다 / 高刺上天咸 휘어진 자루는 번갯불처럼 번쩍이고 / 揉柄電爲火 씻은 칼날은 서릿발처럼 희다 / 洗鋒霜是監 하필 병기를 만들어서 / 何當作兵器 초 나라를 망치고 범 나라를 존재시킬 것인가 / 亡楚却存凡 그 뒤에 몽고(蒙古) 사신이 왔는데 그는 시에 능한 사람이었다. 그 사람은 이 시를 보고 재삼 찬탄하며, “이 사람이 살아 있는가? 지금 무슨 벼슬을 하고 있는가? 혹시 만나 볼 수 있겠는가?” 하고 물었는데, 우리나라 사람은 멍하니 대답하지 못하였다. 나는 그 말을 듣고, “지금 제고학사(制誥學士)의 직위에 있다고 왜 말하지 않았는가?” 하였다. 그가 권변(權變)에 어두움이 이와 같았으니 한탄스럽다. |

| O Sejae 吳世才 (b. 1133; styled Tŏkchŏn; sobriquet Pogyang [Puyang]) composed poetry with boldness and vigor (kyŏngjun). Not a small number of his poems are relished (hoeja) by people, but people have not seen his ability to match difficult rhymes. One day, while at North Mountain, he wished to write a poem on Halberd Rocks, and the man whom O asked to choose the rhyme intentionally chose a difficult one. O wrote,
The jagged rocks of North Mountain, people call you Halberd Rocks. Towering, you strike the crane riding Prince Jin. Soaring, you pierce the Divine Shaman. Lightning’s fire forged your handles. Frost-like salt whetted your blades. Can I use you as a weapon to conquer Chu and save Fan! After this event, an envoy from the Northern court (Yuan) skilled in poetry came. When the envoy heard this poem, he praised its beauty (mi) over and over, and asked whether the poet was still alive, what his position was, and whether he could meet him. The officials of our country were stupefied and did not know how to answer. When I heard this, I said, “Why didn’t they tell him that he currently holds the position of Edict Drafter Academician (chego haksa)?” The lack of ability to improvise in this situation is truly deplorable. |
