My clan elder Im Pang was skilled (kong) in poetry. Hanging willow branches sweep the ground.Everywhere orioles sing. The dream has ended at the high tower. I feel lost at the thought of return.Light rains and windborne petalsin the villages near and far.Warm mists and fragrant plantsto the east and west of the river. Spring, as if deserting, left me heartlessly.A poem, in case of meeting you,I write gleefully. After the sky clears, leaning on the railing, alone I turn around to look.High above, the setting sungoes down the riverbank. The poem demonstrates literary creativity (chosa) and is clear and graceful (ch’ŏngwan). He also wrote the following quatrain, I see in a glance cooking smoke risingfrom a lonely village down the mountain. To a bramble gate made of old branchescomes a traveler and ties his horse. It describes an evening view of a lonely mountain as if it is unfolding just before one’s eyes.
