It is said that when the imperial envoy Tang Gao arrived at Tongp’a station, he playfully composed the following poetic line, Dongpo was exiled to Hainan. Why then did he end up here? He invited accompanying officials to help complete the poem. Yi Haeng, who at the time was Welcoming Official, immediately composed the following line, Hundreds of Dongpo are scattered about.Wouldn’t it be that one of them came here? The envoy saw it and gave it an utmost praise. The expression “hundreds of Dongpo” came from a poem by Su Shi. The use of reference (yongsa) therefore is fitting. There is also a poem by a Korean poet which has the line “Undulating ripples scatter and become one hundred Su Shi” 搖波散作東坡百.
