趙光甫持謙。以淸直不容於朝。長逝之日。有白鳥十數翔集屋上云異哉。有人以詩弔之曰。如何大鳥來相弔。昔在關西今海濱。微禽亦悼仁人逝。人若不哀人不人。任公輔相元挽曰。涇渭未分心獨苦。風霜相薄舌猶存。人以為實錄
Being pure and upright, Cho Chigyŏm 趙持謙 (1639–1685; styled Kwangbo) was not accepted at the court. It is said that on the day he died, a dozen white birds flew above the roof of his house. How strange! Someone wrote the following poem to mourn his death, 如何大鳥來相吊昔在關西今海濱微禽亦悼仁人逝人若不哀人不人 Why did the big birds come to mourn together?In the past in Kwansŏ and today at the beach?Even the birds grieve the death of a good man.If a man does not mourn, is he a man? Im Sangwŏn said in his eulogy poem, 涇渭未分心獨苦風霜相薄舌猶存 The Jing and the Wei are yet to be set apart,and only the heart is in agony.Wind and frost draw near together,yet the tongue still lives on. People say these are true records.
