兼之嘗夢。有一奇形士人寄兼之詩曰。世上紅塵滿。天樓紫玉寒。東皇求八狴。終不憶家山。兼之疑其夢乃冥招也。而衆咸嘆在世不久。翌年。應擧捷科探花郞。余走詩賀曰。日下五雲爛未收。廣寒深殿桂花秋。祗隨傅說調金鼎。準擬東皇八狴求。詩意指東皇爲我君。而期兼之於必得輔佐。未幾。入弘文館。寵榮爲多。
겸지(兼之)가 일찍이 꿈을 꾸었다. 한 기이한 모습의 사인(士人)이 겸지에게 시를 주기를, 세상엔 홍진이 가득하고 / 世上紅塵滿 하늘 누각엔 자옥이 차갑네 / 天樓紫玉寒 동황이 팔폐를 구하지만 / 東皇求八狴 끝내 그 집을 알지 못하네 / 終不憶家山 하였다. 겸지는 그 꿈이 바로 저승의 소환장이라 의심했고, 여러 사람들도 모두 오래 살지 못할 것이라고 탄식하였다. 이듬해에 과거에 응시하여 탐화랑(探花郞)이 되었다. 내가 시를 지어 축하하기를, 도성의 오색구름은 찬란한 빛 걷히지 않고 / 日下五雲爛未收 광한루 깊은 궁전은 계수나무 꽃핀 가을이라 / 廣寒深殿桂花秋 부열의 행적 본받아 나랏일에 힘쓸 뿐이니 / 祗隨傅說調金鼎 이것이 아마 동황이 팔폐를 구한 뜻이리라 / 準擬東皇八狴求 하였다. 시의 뜻을 말하자면, 동황(東皇)은 우리 임금을 가리킨 것으로, 반드시 겸지에게 보좌(輔佐)의 지위를 얻기를 기약한 것이다. 얼마 있지 않아 홍문관에 들어가서 총애를 많이 받았다.
Yi Talsŏn 李達善 (1457–1505; styled Kyŏmji) once had a dream in which a scholar in a strange form presented him with a poem that read, 世上紅塵滿天樓紫玉寒東皇求八狴終不憶家山 The world is full of red dust.At the celestial mansion, the sounds of purple jades are cold. The Eastern Emperor seeks out the eight beastsbut remembers not his native mountains. Yi believed the dream was a call from the underworld, so he told everyone that he would die soon. The following year, he won the honor of the tertius at the civil service examination. I sent him the following congratulatory poem, 日下五雲爛未收廣寒深殿桂花秋祗隨傅說調金鼎準擬東皇八狴求 Under the sun, five-colored clouds glimmer without an end. Deep inside the Palace of Vast Coldness, autumn osmanthus are in bloom.Follow Fu Yue’s example and stir the golden cauldron.Let’s hope the Sovereign of the East will search for the eight beasts. The poem’s meaning (siŭi) draws an analogy between our king to the Eastern Emperor, and it shows my faith that Yi would someday assist the king. Not long after, Yi entered the Office of Special Advisors (Hongmun’gwan) and received great royal favor and honor.
