| 申企齋凡有所作。輒示申直講從濩。得其是正。方以行於世。一日以洗草宴契軸詩。令申觀之。讀至人間遺跡似龍騰。未契於心。再三諷咏。企齋曰。以爲未洽當耶。申曰。東坡所謂世間遺跡猶龍騰者。謂蘭亭繭紙眞本殉葬昭陵。其摹本之傳於世者。猶如龍騰。謂摹本誰非眞本。其筆勢猶似龍騰。今用此語。以對天上寶書隨水化。恐未當。企齋曰。何可作如此看。龍騰只謂如龍之變化。而無迹也。不以申語爲然。不改龍騰之語而傳於世。今恐申語爲是。 |

| 신기재(申企齋)는 시를 지으면 곧 직강 신호(申濩)에게 보여 그의 시정을 받은 뒤에야 세상에 내보였다. 하루는 세초연(洗草宴) 계축시(契軸詩)를 지어 신호에게 보여 주었는데, 신호가 읽다가 “인간 세상에 남은 자취는 용이 날아오르는 듯하네〔人間遺跡似龍騰〕”라는 구절에 이르러 마음에 맞지 않아 두세 번 읊조렸다. 기재가 말하기를,
“흡족하지 않다고 여기는가?” 하니, 신호가 말하기를, “동파(東坡 소식(蘇軾))의 시에 ‘세상에 남은 자취는 용이 날아오르는 듯하네.’라는 말은, 비단에 쓴 난정기(蘭亭記)의 진본(眞本)은 소릉(昭陵)에 순장(殉葬)되었으나 세상에 전하는 모사본조차 용이 날아오르는 듯하다는 것이니, 모본이 진본은 아니지만 그 필세가 용이 날아오르는 듯하다는 말이네. 지금 이 말을 써서 ‘하늘 위의 보배로운 글이 물결 따라 흩어지네.〔天上寶書隨水化〕’의 대로 삼는다면 마땅하지 않은 듯하네.” 하였다. 기재가 말하기를, “어찌하여 그렇게 보는가. 용이 날아오르는 듯하다는 말은 그저 용처럼 변화하여 자취가 없다는 말이네.” 하며 신호의 말을 옳다고 여기지 않았다. 그래서 용이 날아오르는 듯하다는 말을 고치지 않고 세상에 전하였는데, 지금은 신호의 말이 옳은 듯하다. |

| Whenever Sin Kwanghan wrote a poem, he showed it to Lecturer (chikkang) Sin Chongho. Only after getting the poem fine-tuned by Chongho, did Kwanghan release it to the world. One day Sin Kwanghan showed him his poem “The Records of a Ceremony of Washing Historical Drafts” 洗草宴契軸. When Sin Chongho got to the line, 人間遺跡似龍騰 Your traces in the mortal world soar like a dragon. he did not agree with it in his heart, and he read it again two or three times. Sin Kwanghan asked, “Do you think it is not suitable?” Sin Chongho replied, “When Su Shi said, 世間遺跡猶龍騰 Your traces in the human world soar like a dragon.he was saying that after the original copy of the Preface to the Orchid Pavilion written on the paper made from silkworm cocoons was buried with Tang Emperor Taizong in his Zhao Mausoleum, its copy, which was passed down to the world, soared like a dragon. He was saying although the copy is not the original version, the vigor of its brush still resembled a soaring dragon. Today, you are using this expression to parallel with 天上寶書隨水化 Precious writings from Heaven dissolve in water. I am afraid it is not suitable.” Sin Kwanghan replied, “Why do you read it that way? By ‘soar like a dragon’ I only meant that the writings left no trace like a transforming dragon.” Disagreeing with Sin Chongho’s comment, Sin Kwanghan did not change “soar like a dragon” and released the poem in public. In this, I am afraid, Sin Chongho was right. |
