1. State Councilor (ch’ansŏng) Yi Hang 李沆 (d. 1637) was demoted to the position of Governor (kamsa) of East Kyŏngsang province. After that, Censor General (taesagan) Cho Kwangjo 趙光祖 (1482–1519) and others were exiled because of their crimes, and Yi was appointed as Inspector-General (taesahŏn) and was summoned to return. On his departure, Hamyang Magistrate (kunsu) Mun Kyech’ang 文繼昌 (d. 1522) presented him with a farewell poem, which read, 明公此去似登仙盤錯須憑利器剸畋後豈無三窟兎會看一鶚上秋天 Honorable Sir, your departure this time resembles an immortal’s ascension. To cut those tangled branches, you must use a razor-sharp weapon. After the hunt, will there be no. more cunning hares? You shall see a hawk soaring in the autumn sky. Yi received the poem with delight. Upon returning to the court, he shared the poem with the forest of scholars, and they could not stand straight on their feet in reverence. |
