| 나는 세상에서 변고를 하도 많이 겪고 보니 점점 옛날의 역사를 들춰보고 싶은 생각이 들지 않는다. 왜냐하면 대체로 옛날의 역사에 기록된 내용들을 보건대 잘 다스려지던 때는 적고 어지러웠던 시기가 많아 괜히 가슴만 아파오기 때문이다. 내가 언젠가 시를 짓기를,
마음에 맞는 책은 오직 주역뿐 / 書到會心惟有易 상고시대 논할 때도 탕은 언급 않겠네 / 時論上世不言湯 하였는데, 이것이야말로 내 마음 속에 깃들은 진정한 생각이다. |

| After experiencing many calamities in the world, I gradually lost the desire to read histories. This is because in histories, the days of peace are few while the days of turmoil are many. Seeing this only made me grieve. I once wrote in a poem, 書到會心惟有易時論上世不言湯 The book that touches my heart is the Book of Changes only.Now when discussing the antiquities, I do not speak of King Tang.
